Can’t find Answers?

Don’t worry, our support team will help you

When are you open?

Our vineyard and winery store hours are: Summer Hours (April 1st to October 30th) 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. daily and Winter Hours (November 1st to March 31st) 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. daily. We are open ALL holidays! Check our Google Business page for any updates.

What do you charge for wine tastings?

Our wine tastings are currently $25/person for a selection of our best international award-winning wines. Our servers are responsible and SmartServe certified so we want you to leave sober, healthy and in perfect shape for a safe journey home after you leave our premises. You’re fine to drive after you have our tastings. We aim to give you an excellent experience.

Do you serve food?

Currently we do not serve food on-demand. We do, however offer a high-end charcuterie (think quail eggs, elk terrine, bison terrine, truffle-fed boar sausage, fresh bread made with our grapes, edible flowers in season stuffed with water buffalo cheese, international and local cheese selections, sea asparagus, chocolate wine truffles, etc.) currently at $40/person. We do require 48 hours notice to confirm the booking as our charcuterie chef has to prepare our boards off-site at an inspected kitchen and has to travel to Quebec and Toronto to get the ingredients. Advanced orders for these gorgeous charcuterie boards should be made by emailing us with the exact time, date and number of persons who will partake. That’s all we offer for food right now, save some farm products that are available for purchase from time to time in season. We are currently constructing a restaurant at Potter Settlement, but since it will be a high-end eatery which requires a lot of investment, this may take a few years. There are other great restaurants and cafés in Tweed that can offer you food service nearby and the City of Belleville, which is only a 30 minutes drive away also offers plenty of restaurants.

Do you have to book reservations to come and do a tasting?

Groups of 1-5 persons generally can just walk in and we’ll do our best to accommodate your needs. However larger groups of 6 ppl or more should reserve in advance by calling our business phone +1 613-478-1478 or by emailing us so that we may have advanced notice to set up a larger table for your group.

I have children. Can I bring them to a wine tasting?

Everyone is welcome at Potter Settlement – though you’re essentially bringing your underage children to a bar that serves alcohol – so we don’t encourage you to bring children. If parents do bring children, we ask that parents/guardians are mindful so that the kids aren’t disturbing other guests. We also strictly ask that children ARE NOT LEFT UNATTENDED. They must have an adult with them, and be under control of an adult at all times. Rock climbing is off limits and not allowed on our property. Playing around our ponds is also off limits and not allowed on our property. This is only common sense as these areas can be dangerous and we are not liable for any unfortunate accidents. “Unattended children will be given multiple shots of highly caffeinated espresso and free puppies to take home”. Just kidding of course! 😉

Can I bring my dog to the winery?

Everyone is welcome at Potter Settlement – though we ask that your dog is curbed/leashed and is under your full control and does not disturb the other guests. Again, only common sense. We love animals so we also ask that you bring your own water and food for your pet as our wine tastings can take some time and we wouldn’t want your pet to get thirsty or hungry. We also ask that if your pet voids on our property that you clean up and dispose of it not on our premises, which is only hygienic and fair to us and the other guests.

Do you have an EV (electric vehicle) charger for my car at your winery?

No, unfortunately we don’t have an electric charger at the winery at the moment, but it is something that we’d like to have someday in the future!

This link shows you a map of chargers in the area.

Can we walk the winery grounds?

Yes, everyone is welcome to walk our grounds and enjoy the vineyard and natural beauty of our 188 year-old farm! We only have a few common sense rules:

  1. No rock climbing
  2. No fishing or swimming in our ponds which are quite deep
  3. Please avoid our private residence
  4. Please don’t litter or leave cigarette butts on our grounds
  5. Please don’t pick our grapes – this is our livelihood!

Are your wines organic and sustainably grown?

Yes! We are a 6th generation farm as our family has farmed Potter Settlement since 1836. Our proprietor is just the generational caretaker here. He doesn’t want to spray chemicals to pollute the groundwater and the land  – and ultimately your food and hurt the next generation. We drink our wines and we want clean food, so we practice regenerative farming.

Our experimental grapes (Marquette, Frontenacs, Itasca, Petite Pearl) require only a fraction of systemic sprays that most grapes require. This allows us to reduce our dependency to make clean food. At worst, sulphur is sprayed during wet and humid periods, which is a natural element. This reduces our chemical input for cleaner groundwater, land and food (grapes/wine). We also compost grape waste (skins, seeds, stems) and add it back to the vineyard. This builds the soil and keeps it nutrient-rich. We also don’t till the soil, but do cover crops (like clover, legumes and native grasses and plants to promote grapevine health and vigor which improves yields and grape quality. We also don’t irrigate (as many vineyards do) as it is too hard on the water cycle and the groundwater reserves.

We let the plants search for water as vineyards also do in France. It makes the plants more resilient and healthier. Again, our family drinks our own wines and we want it to be as clean as possible and we want to take care of our land for the next generation.

Potter Settlement is a gorgeous gem with a lot of natural, pastoral beauty as you’ll see when you arrive – and we want to keep it that way. WE take pride in our farm and we take pride in our food!
